On the evening of 13 November 2015, a series of coordinated terrorist attacks—consisting of mass shootings, suicide bombings, and hostage-taking—occurred in Paris, France, and Saint-Denis, one of its northern suburbs. Beginning at 21:16 CET, six mass shootings in central Paris and three separate suicide bombings near the Stade de France occurred. The deadliest attack was at the Bataclan theatre, where attackers took hostages and engaged in a stand-off with police which ended at 00:58 on 14 November. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) claimed responsibility for the attacks. The attackers killed 129 victims.

Background
Islamic State (IS), is a Wahhabi/Salafi jihadist extremist militant group and self-proclaimed Islamic state and caliphate, which is led by and mainly composed of Sunni Arabs from Iraq and Syria. As of March 2015, it has control over territory occupied by ten million people in Iraq and Syria, and through loyal local groups, has control over small areas of Libya, Nigeria and Afghanistan. The group also operates or has affiliates in other parts of the world, including North Africa and South Asia.
Source of Income
Information collected from a wide range of sources and countries such as Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the United States, demonstrate that ISIL’s primary source of income comes from the territory it occupies. The appropriation of the cash held at state-owned banks, gave ISIL access to an estimated half a billion USD in late 2014. The exploitation of oil fields also generates significant funds for ISIL, particularly when it first took control of them. This report identifies other sources of funding that ISIL relies on to finance its terrorist activities and the regular investments into its infrastructure and governance requirements.
How ISIL Got Support
For most people in the UK and elsewhere, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) is nothing short of pure evil - severing heads and stealing women - a menace to the world that must be eliminated.

‘Kill any disbeliever’
Al-Adnani, who also acts as the spokesman of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), issued the audio statement, called “Indeed Your Lord Is Ever Watchful,” in which he told supporters: “If you can kill a disbelieving American or European — especially the spiteful and filthy French — then rely upon Allah, and kill him in any manner or way however it may be.”
Al-Adnani wanted to shame ISIL supporters elsewhere in the world into tacking action, telling them: “So O muwahhid [believer] will you leave the American, the Frenchman, or any of their allies to walk safely upon the earth while the armies of the crusaders strike the lands of the Muslims not differentiating between a civilian and fighter?
“How can you enjoy life and sleep while not aiding your brothers, not casting fear into the hearts of the cross worshippers, and not responding to their strikes with multitudes more?”
Al-Adnani called on supporters to launch attacks wherever they could. “The best thing you can do is to strive to your best and kill any disbeliever, whether he be French, American, or from any of their allies,” he said.
