How to Correct Date of Birth and Place of birth in Passport

Majority of people have differences in original date of birth in their birth certificate and in the SSLC book. Many reasons are there for the parents to change their children's birth date officially. Many of them change DOB for adjusting enough age to get admission to first standard. Some will change to get 1 year extended service in Govt. Sector. Anyway the people who have wrong DOB in certificates will have to face lots of problem while immigration procedures to western countries. Once you got your Birth Certificate it is easy to correct SSLC book. But correcting Passport is difficult. If you are in Gulf countries where birth certificate is not a mandatory for job procedures; and now you wanted to migrate western countries, then the problem worse.

You have two options to correct DOB.

1. Approach Passport Seva Kendra. But you must submit original Passport and the TATKAL facility is not available for DOB corrections, that means you have to apply NORMAL scheme and you will get new passport after Police verification. So time for correction may take 30 days. If somehow the time to get new passport extended, you may face problems.

2. Another option is that you can correct your DOB and POB via respective Indian Embassy (if you are outside India). But probably you may stuck with this statement. ''In case of correction of date/place of birth involving issue of new passport booklet, a declaratory Court Order (in original with a copy) issued by a First Class Judicial Magistrate in India instructing the Embassy to correct Date/Place of Birth duly attested by the concerned state Home Department is to be submitted.'' If you enquire about this Court order you will get different negative answers.

Actually to get declaratory court order from High Court is simple and easy .

1. No need to appear in the court.

2. No need original certificates, only copies to be submitted.

3. No need original passport to be submit.

4. It may take appx. 30 days.
